It was an honor to be a judge at this year’s pageant! I had no idea how tough it was going to be to pick a winner… There were so many incredibly beautiful, fit, talented, and philanthropic girls competing, making our job as judges so very difficult.
The panel of judges, which consisted of 10 people from various walks of beauty, fashion, entertainment and casting, included TV personality Kelly Bensimon, YouTube glamour expert Jessica Harlow, Patrick Melville Salon owner Rick Wellman, Vinnie Potestivo Entertainment casting director Karen Happel, communications consultant Carlos Alvarez-Aranyos and Erika Shay.
Together, all 10 judges had to narrow approximately 150 girls to 20 to 10 to 5 to 1… and we truly believe the newly crowned Miss New York USA will be the perfect “rep” for our great state at the Miss USA pageant this Summer in the Bahamas.
In the end — during final interviews — Johanna coincidentally picked my question from the fishbowl. “This question comes from judge Micah Jesse, ‘If you could have two celebrity parents, who would they be and why?” asked hosts Rob Shuter and Pavarti Shallow. Our newly crowned Miss New York replied that her father had passed on and her mother was in the audience and both, she knows, are extremely proud of her and she would never change them for anything.
What a perfect answer!!
Who knows? Maybe she will win and go on to Miss Universe? Do you think Johanna Sambucini has what it takes to be Miss Universe?
